What truly is a SUBLUXATION? Is it simply a misalignment in your spine? Are there other components like emotional and chemical? Do we cause more of them when we adjust or are we honestly getting rid of them with the adjustment? Should we even talk about SUBLUXATIONS with the people we serve?
I struggled with all of these questions for a long time. I knew as a Chiropractor I was supposed to find SUBLUXATIONS, adjust them, and then everything would be better. But is that what I was really doing? Or was I finding misalignments and trying to put them back into place?
If you ask a Diversified doctor, a Network doctor, a BGI doctor, an AK doctor, or an Upper Cervical Specific doctor what a SUBLUXATION is, they will probably all give you a different answer. One might talk about a bone being out of place, one might talk about pressure on nerves, one might say that it is an emotional block from childhood, one might say that it is tension on dentate ligaments causing a pull on the brainstem, which in turn causes dysafferentation throughout the entire system. But, one thing that I am sure that we can almost all agree with though is that it is something obstructing the communication from the Brain to the Body and Body to the Brain.
I have also heard lately that a lot of Docs don’t even communicate what a SUBLUXATION is to their patients. They avoid the topic all together. How unfortunate is that? The primary thing that we actually do, removing interference of the communication between the brain and the body (ie: SUBLUXATION), is something that we don’t even communicate to our patients. We do Report of Findings, telling people everything that is WRONG with them and that we can FIX it, but don’t actually tell them how. In my ROF, I always tell them that I find the primary area that is causing this interference, something that we call a SUBLUXATION, which translates into “A Lack of Light”, and I simply remove the interference. It’s that simple. That is the point where I typically get the “Ah-ha” moment from my people.
It already freaks me out that we have become strictly pain based in the publics eye, that a lot of Chiropractors don’t even educate their patients about what Chiropractic is and why it’s NECESSARY, and that now we don’t even talk about what it is that we actually correct. We don’t correct pain, asthma, DJD, bursitis, or arthritis, we correct SUBLUXATIONS and restore the LIGHT from WITHIN allowing the patients to work with what is RIGHT within them, not what is WRONG.
Let’s bring back the truth!

Your right on, it is a shame that we have become so medical minded (thank you CCE) we have to get back to the basics and teach CAUSE CORRECTION and restoration of LIGHT. Also, educate on the cause and elimination precursors of subluxation…THOUGHT’S, TRAUMA, CHEMICAL!
Comment by Nick Tedder June 5, 2009 @ 12:20 pmIt comes down to passion and talent. When you have the passion, you can communicate it. When you have the talent, you can remove subluxations. Those that stick to just pain, don’t have the talent or passion.
Comment by Brandon Harshe June 7, 2009 @ 3:46 pmSubluxation is a common word in our vocabulary in our house. Our 5 year old has no problem asking, “Can I be checked? I think I may be subluxated”. And you know what, usually when she asks she is. She INNATELY knows the TRUTH! It’s awesome!
